DAN GAUDETTE
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I've been depicted as a romantic realist; a man who paints from the heart.
My work in oils focuses on painting landscapes and seascapes, in which I find inexhaustible inspiration. I also do portraits, and still life, achieving graphic realism through precise and meticulous control of the medium.
I capture the expanses, or intimate vignettes of a scene, recreating a mental state as well as a realistic vision. I have an innate sense of my surroundings and I combine the things that impress me visually - along with the emotions I experience at the time. My fascination with light, both direct and indirect, is a big part of creating the mood and atmosphere of a painting.
